Free Legal Help

The United States Constitution guarantees free legal help for people who are charged with a crime which might lead to imprisonment and who cannot afford an attorney. However, it does not guarantee free legal assistance for civil cases or general legal advice. But there are legal services offices around the country in which staff lawyers provide free or low-cost legal help to the poor.

These legal help programs are normally sponsored by local or state bar associations. You can contact the bar association in your area for more information about these programs.

Additionally, several legal hotlines are set up where people can talk to a legal aid lawyer or assistant by telephone to get answers to basic legal concerns. These hotlines are often part of your state's legal aid program or sometimes set up by a private attorney.

There are also places you can find free legal help online. For example, RocketLawyer.com has an extensive Law Library section on their website where you can watch videos with legal advice, read a blog with legal tips or review legal e-books. All these sections are available for anyone to use.
